SG Night Economy

How ten of Singapore's evening and nightlife precincts fill and empty between 6pm and 6am — when each peaks, how much of the night runs past midnight, who's out and where they travel from.

Privacy
by design

Opt-in & GDPR / PDPA-aligned. This is built only from mobile devices whose users have opted in to location sharing in their apps. Device identifiers are anonymised (one-way hashed) at ingestion — no names, numbers or addresses are ever used. Everything shown is an aggregate; any figure covering fewer than 5 devices is suppressed, and nothing can be traced to a person. Processing follows GDPR and Singapore's PDPA principles.

How we read the night

Four signals, one anonymised panel. Each precinct is a geofence; everything below is the median across July's nights, so one unusual evening can't skew it.

Where the night happens

How late each precinct runs

Dot size = evening crowd · brighter = larger share of the night after midnight.

Latest-running precincts

Share of the night's crowd out after midnight (weekend nights).

How the precincts differ

The same night, ten different shapes. The map below places each precinct by how late it runs and how far its crowd travels; the heatmap shows every precinct's hour-by-hour shift side by side.

Night-type map

Right = runs later · up = crowd travels further (a destination) · bubble = evening crowd · brighter = more night-owl.

Night shift, hour by hour

Each row scaled to its own busiest hour — brighter = busier. Rows ordered by how late they run (weekend).

Each precinct, 6pm to 6am

Reading the curves

Each panel is the median number of panel devices present in that precinct, hour by hour, across July nights (18:00 on the left to 06:00 on the right; the shaded band is after midnight). Curves use the continuous, first-party movement signal so they reflect who is actually there each hour.
